Looking at all these snaps from my vacation (and a few newer ones) makes me really want to flip the finger to “real life” that’s been knocking on my door the past week. We got back on tuesday, I went to work on wednesday and that was that. My vacation mood was officially killed. BUT, they say a heat wave will hit us next week (again) and I’m pretty positive that will put me right back into the mood. In the meantime I’ll just emulate a ostrich and try to forget about the fact that my classes start in just 2,5 weeks, we still haven’t found a place to live, I’ll have to start up my driving lessons again and… well, I forgot. See, it’s working already.
Now, some literal aids with the visual aids:
We stayed in Ghent for five days and had a great time trying out different restaurants, lying in the park with our books, browsing bookstores and eating icecream. It was so hot outside (and inside) we had to take 1am walks to cool down, but other than that it was great. Ghent is a great city for wandering. Thanks Kim, for letting us stay at your place!
After that we took a train to my grandparents and one of the first things we did was jump in the sea. FINALLY! The rest of our ten days were spent on the beach, either swimming or tanning or trying out new tricks with the kite. We enjoyed my grandmothers cooking (fresh mussles! yum!), baked waffles, visited the small town Hulst (see the picture of me pointing at a windmill) and overall had a lot of fun. It was so nice to spend some time with my family, I definitely miss them already. Ten days were way too short.
Like I said I had to work the day after we’ve arrived back home, but of course my diary doesn’t end there (thankfully). Things I also want to share with you:
This song is very addictive. I can’t get it out of my head! We sang along to it all the time during our stay in Ghent. Summer feels. It’s actually a pretty heavy song (“Dad, where are you?”). Stromae lost his father during the genocide in Rwanda. My french is a bit rusty, but knowing that gives it a whole new dimension…
Have a good week everyone xx
