Today we kind of had our first real day of spring here in the Netherlands. It was lovely. I really love how light this house is, something I forgot until the sun came out today and lit it all up.

I must say that I’m really glad that the sun is finally showing itself (and yes, I know that it’s technically not correct, the stuff with the clouds and the sun always being there et cetera…). It’s about time! Because let me be honest with you: although I have had nothing bad happening to me in the past week, I’m kind of feeling down. It’s a weird feeling, like something is creeping up on me… I see myself avoiding mirrors, am bored with all of my clothes, don’t feel like eating (I do of course, but I don’t really enjoy it – which is weird, because usually I LOVE food), I’m tired, don’t feel like really doing anything at all and well… If I would have to summarize it all in one word it would be BLEGH. Not even a postive ~inspirational~ quote on a random picture can make me feel better. Maybe it’s the winterblues? It’s time for the sun to come out! Hopefully it will help!

Thankfully I was able to ignore that feeling for a little bit some days this week and forced myself to go outside. What do you see (besides the obvious pictures of “our” house) and what did I do?

I watched Silver Linings Playbook, which I liked but didn’t love (maybe I should read the book?) ▲ We went to Amsterdam for a open day at the university and I found the Master I want to graduate in, yay! I’ll start in september :) ▲ We also bought apple pie and paid Nathalie a visit at her cute home that day (and when I say cute, I mean it in a really good way, not in a “it’s small, so let’s just call it cute” kind of way) ▲ We used our fireplace almost everyday ▲ Baked tiny pancakes over at a friends house ▲ I bought some new boots (yay for sale shopping) ▲ Finally found a good coffee place in town! ▲ I borrowed the Bamboo Wacom tablet from a friend and used it for the first time (see last post for the results). Feels nice to be creative again (although it also forces me to fully acknowledge my own shortcomings – I CANNOT DRAW, no matter how hard I try, hehe) ▲ I’ve been listening a lot to Coldplay this week. Still love this song, great to sing a long ;-) ▲ I made potato soup again, and yes, I WILL post the recipe this week. I promise. ▲

Also, this song makes me happy (it’s from the 500 days of summer soundtrack):

Have a nice week everybody. Let it be a good one!

snip snap

September knocked on my door and let itself in without waiting for me to answer it. Wow, can you believe it, how rude! ;-) I wasn’t prepared for this! Tomorrow school officially starts and with that, my eight month vacation will be officially over. I’m excited, but most of all already exhausted with all the working and keeping up with the social stuff. Yesterday evening I was brushing my teeth untill I noticed I couldn’t find the lid for the tube. I searched about fifteen minutes for it, only to discover that it was hiding in the sleeve of my bathrobe… pfffff! (Also, that’s probably the only downside of wearing big bathrobes! Other than that, they are lovely. Trust me, you should try them).

Since I came back from Sweden I have a hard time adjusting to my life again. I know I sound like a dramaqueen (newsflash: that’s because I am!), but it’s the truth. I have a job again, I try to meet up with everyone (I HAVE SO MANY FRIENDS….. HA-HA! no not really, I just have a hard time keeping up with the whole 2 of them, and let’s not forget my imaginary friends of course) and it seems like most of my days are over before I even know it. In Sweden my life was simple (I made it that way) and here I feel the pressure of everyday life weighing on my shoulders again. I talked to a few people about it and as it turned out, my feelings aren’t that weird for someone who just returned from a stay abroad (pfieuw…!). I’ll just have to put up with it I guess!

But, let’s not forget all the fun stuff I have been doing besides earning big bucks. As you can see I had a lot of fun the last couple of weeks! For that, I don’t have to be in Sweden :)

Home Sweet Home

Ever since I came home from my trip abroad, I’ve been really enjoying making our apartment even more cozy than it already was. I don’t see myself as a very materialistic person, but I must confess… I love pretty stuff. My definition of “pretty” doesn’t mean it has to be shiny or new or expensive though. Secondhand shops and flea markets are kind of my guilty pleasure. I can’t leave those things without buying some more cute plates and cups, or vases or… well, you name it, I fall for it. Don’t get me wrong: I’m the first person to declare her love for Ikea (although I’m still a bit sad about the fact that they discontinued their cappuccino cake), but in my opinion there exists something as TOO MUCH IKEA. We do have a lot of stuff from there, but I like mixing them with secondhand stuff. In my opinion it really adds character to a home and it can be so much fun to find something you love (for a few bucks!) and make it even more pretty with a lick of paint.

Above all, I love a home which can tell you a lot about the people who are living in it, for it to say something about their personalities. Our home is still a work in progress, but I think that is the fun part about having a place of your own: it’s never finished and you can keep changing it whenever you want. Well, with the consent of your housemate/boyfriend of course (mine veto’d about pink walls – luckily that’s not really my thing either).
